Examples include:
- Lion mane’s mushroom, Hericium erinaceus
- Clustered bracket Inonotus cuticularis
- Rosy dot lichen Bacidia rosella
- Beech bark spot lichen Pyrenula nitida
- Large black longhorn beetle, Stictoleptura scutellata
Annex II species (species with special protection under EU law) also benefit from the project, such as:
- Bechstein’s bat, Myotis bechsteinii
- Barbastelle bat, Barbastella barbastellus
- Hermit beetle, Osmoderma eremita
- Stag beetle, Lucanus cervus
Even though hermit beetles and stag beetles only live in a few project areas, the work is still important.
Sweden has 30–50% of all known hermit beetle populations in Europe, and both species depend on old, large broadleaf trees—the type of environment this project aims to protect and restore.
